3D technology and good craftsmanship

Every piece of jewelry from Luis & Freya goes through a manufacturing process that consists of over 20 individual steps.

First, 3D print data is generated from the design already personalized by the Design Studio. This way, it can be processed by the 3D printer.  

After the automated checking of print data, thin layers of wax are then poured onto a building platform until the entire geometry is created. This enables the overnight creation of the piece's basic structure.

After quality checks for printing errors, the so-called “growing” of the wax models can take place, using a casting tree. Depending on the material and complexity, this can carry two to twenty pieces. The finished casting tree is placed in a cuvette and filled with plaster to harden there.

Now the wax can be melted off, creating a negative form, i.e. the so-called " lost wax casting". The liquid metal is then introduced into the cuvette under vacuum and the pieces of jewelry solidify in the wax that has been loosened.

After cooling, the plaster of paris is removed and the individual parts are separated from the casting tree. Another quality control of the raw casting follows, and the parts are removed from the casting skin in a polishing drum.

Now the handwork begins

The jewelry is deburred and hand-polished by a goldsmith, followed by intensive cleaning to remove the polish residues. Depending on the individual order, diamonds are placed by a stone setter. If electroplating has been requested, the silver parts are prepared for electroplating and coated with rhodium in an electroplating bath. If the jewelry was processed with gold or platinum, further quality control takes place before the production is completed.
